Ethan的日记5/28
Hi everyone, welcome back to my channel. I’m Ethan.
Today is Wednesday, May 28th. It’s cloudy and a bit chilly out.
I want to share a bit about my job today.
I work as a data analyst at a food delivery company. My main job is to track and analyze all kinds of company data, and see if anything looks unusual or needs attention.
Most of the time, I just work with Excel—using formulas and tables to get the job done. But because a lot of the work is super repetitive, I taught myself some Python and VBA to automate everything. Both are great for office automation and have really cut down my workload.
We’ve made templates for all the daily reports. Now I just download the raw data, drop it into the right worksheet, and boom—it updates automatically.
I use Python to scrape the data every day, and then VBA to update the Excel files, since some of my coworkers don’t know how to code. VBA works better in that case because it’s more compatible and easier for others to use.
Other than the weekly and monthly report templates, most things are fully automated now. On a normal day, I only need to work about half an hour to get everything done.
Our company’s management is super relaxed. As long as you finish your work, you can chill, play games—nobody really cares. I usually use my free time to study English.
But lately, the company added a new task: I have to make daily phone calls to check if employees understand company policies. It takes up about two extra hours every day, so things have gotten a bit busier.
Technically, my job never takes a break—even on weekends. Before, I didn’t have to go to the office on Sundays, but I still had to finish my daily tasks. Now they’ve finally let me stay home on weekends, but I still have to get the work done.
Luckily, I automated everything, otherwise it would be hard to enjoy my weekends with two hours of work hanging over my head.
So that’s a bit about my work. It’s not super stressful, but I wouldn’t call it totally free either.
I make these kinds of videos to help myself figure out how to talk about real-life stuff in English.
If you enjoy these chats, feel free to like, comment, and follow. See you next time—bye!
